I also learned that I am not much of a reader-learner. I also learned that I am much more of a “see it, hear it, do it, and discuss it” type of learner so I study best in small groups where we can all study in solitude alone but can also come together and study independently in company but can have meaningful conversation about topics whenever it is needed.

Upon completion of the Jamboard, “Make It Stick” video, LASSI, and VARK assessments I learned there are multiple ways to actively learn and there is a way to actively learn for every learning style/preference. And the most important thing I learned is that there is always room for improvement and it is absolutely crucial to seek help when needed because there will be people smarter than me on some concepts and I may excel on other concepts where they struggle and by giving each other the much-needed support when we need it is a necessity to help us all succeed. which explains all of the pictures I drew repeatedly on whiteboards during my undergrad. I also learned that I am much more of a “see it, hear it, and discuss it” type of learner so I study best in small groups where we can all study in solitude alone but can also come together and study independently in company but can have meaningful conversation about topics whenever it is needed. By seeking out a tutor or speaking with teachers this will only enhance my learning experience and help me become a master of the material. My VARK questionnaire showed that I prefer to discuss, listen and ask questions to learn. I am not shy in seeking out resources, and I intend on finding help if I need it. The resources offered at Rocky Vista such as tutoring will be valuable for me as a student. I recognize, however, that this will most likely change in medical school. I typically did not have to use tutors, the writing center, etc to help me learn material. Although I will continue to use flash cards to quiz myself, I would like to create practice questions based on the material to prepare for tests.įinally I scored lower on the using academic resources. I believe I scored lower on this section because I stated I did not make practice questions. In undergrad I typically would make flash cards and then quiz myself on them. Secondly, the self testing area was interesting to me. In medical school the information is largely related and it will be important for me to improve in this area so I can build upon a solid foundation. As we saw in the video by Peter Brown connecting new ideas to what we already know will help us achieve mastery of the material faster. This is useful to me as it will help shape the areas I need to improve on in medical school.įirst, scoring low on the information processing illustrates that I do not try to find relationships between what I am learning and what I already know. Self testing and using academic resources sections. I scored low on the information processing, For me, I chose to look primarily at the areas of LASSI that I scored in a lower percentile for.
